Roll-up

The main goal of the rollup is to learn to articulate spine and strengthen the abdominals. The rollup may resemble the traditional sit up, but it is never to be done hastily or inattentively.

The rollup also has the following additional objectives:

  • practicing control over the legs and hips while building strength in the abdominals
  • activates abdominals as stabilizers and movers
  • restores normal timing in the spine during articulation, initiating from the head to roll up and from the tail to roll down
  • contributes to spinal mobility and stability
  • develops scapular stability during spinal articulation
  • challenges the abdominals through a greater range of motion than many other exercises
