The Hundred
The hundred is the first of Joseph Pilates’ classical exercises. It is a powerful exercise that oxygenates and warms the body. Traditionally, the hundred was a warm up exercise.
The hundred also has the following primary objectives and benefits:
- strengthen the abdominal muscles
- develop trunk stabilization
- stimulates circulation and warms up the body
- increases endurance
- increases lung capacity and develops mindful breathing techniques into the back of the ribs
- awakens and alerts the powerhouse
- develop scapular stabilization
Fundamental exercises for the hundred include shoulder shrugs, imprinting, head float, rib cage arms, cat, chest lift, and double knee fold.
